Montgomery, AL – The Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) has released the Accountability System Section of the Alabama Unified Report (AUR). This portion of the report includes the Alabama State Report Card (commonly referred to as the A-F Report Card) and provides a letter grade for each school/school system.

Ultimately, the AUR will be a collection of numerous components of state and federal data, including the Alabama State Report Card. The AUR will combine required federal and state public data, and will place them collectively on the ALSDE’s website for public access, transparency, and analysis.

On December 31^st, the AUR tab on the ALSDE’s website will include:

• Federal Data
• State Report Card Archives
• Accountability Report Archives
• Federal Business Rules
• Demographics
• Glossary

State Superintendent of Education, Dr. Eric Mackey, said the compilation of this data is not only in keeping with federal and state guidelines, but just as importantly, provides a window into our state’s public education system’s standings for all stakeholders to view.

“Overall, we are pleased with the academic growth that we see across the state. It is a testament to the dedication of our teachers, principals, and all those who support their work that student performance continues to rise. As state superintendent, I am grateful for these hardworking individuals in our local schools who improve the trajectory of children’s lives every day. We believe that our best days and highest levels of achievement lie ahead of us, not behind, and we look forward to working with our state policymakers and lawmakers in 2019 to make sure that we are providing ever better resources and supports for our schools,” Mackey said.

“The 2018 State Accountability report tells us something valuable about a school or school system, but it does not tell us everything about that school or system. Based primarily on a particular assessment, it is a snapshot in time. When stacked together year after year, similar to snapshots of your family, these pictures of school academic performance can certainly be used to monitor academic progress and growth. But when we describe our children, we use more than snapshots; we talk about their personalities, struggles, challenges, aspirations, successes.”

The ALSDE oversees millions of data points and works with school systems across the state on the submission of critical data to provide valuable information. The AUR will encompass several components that give a snapshot of how Alabama schools, and ultimately the state, is performing.       

Concerning the Alabama State Report Card, the goal is to provide the public with information that is easy to understand, spark conversation, ensure schools are accountable for their data, and ultimately bring about action for the betterment of Alabama public schools. The completed Alabama State Report Card will contain an array of information providing unique characteristics of Alabama schools and systems, including but not limited to:

• Academic Achievement
• Academic Growth
• Graduation Rates
• College and Career Ready Data
• Chronic Absenteeism
• Enrollment by Student Subgroup
